The road system is Iran is extensive and rapidly growing, with many four-lane highways and more under construction. Some of these have toll stations, and most seem to have regular police checkpoints, where commercial vehicles must stop for the drivers' log books to be examined and stamped.

    At each of these stopping points, permanent and temporary businesses offer goods and services to the passing travellers.
