Bush firefighters in Australia are volunteers, but their activities are not limited to reducing fire hazards, attending wildfires and “mopping up” afterwards.  Brigades also organise training, fundraising, equipment maintenance, community involvement, public education and recruitment. They often travel considerable distances to assist in large fires, sometimes even to other states of Australia.
